Province: Toledo

Toledo is a city and municipality located in central Spain, about 70 kilometers south of Madrid. It was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1986, due to its extensive cultural and monumental heritage as one of the former capitals of the Spanish Empire and place of coexistence of Christian, Jewish and Moorish cultures.

The old city is located on a mountaintop, surrounded on three sides by a bend in the Tagus River, and contains many historical sites, including the Alcázar, the cathedral (the primate church of Spain), and the Zocodover, a central marketplace.
The fifteenth century Santiago Chapel, has a flamboyant Gothic style and houses the sarcophagi of Alvaro de Luna and his wife Juana de Pimentel. The impressive choir is considered as one of the grandest in all Christendom. The Cathedral ia a magnificent building that rappresents many different styles of art in its decoration, with such styles as the Renaissance in the choir stall, Mozarab in the chapel or Mudejar in the anteroom.
Toledo was home to El Greco for the latter part of his life, and is the subject of some of his most famous paintings, including The Burial of the Count of Orgaz, exhibited in the Church of Santo Tomé.
Do not forget to visit one of the great bridges, like the bridge of Saint Martin or the Alcàntara bridge.

Toledo has been famouse for centuries in the production of steel and mainly for their swords, since the production techniques used by the Persians were imported by the Arabs. Still today the city is the center of the production of knifes and other steel products.
