Valencia is the third most important city of Spain for numbers of population, after Madrid and Barcellona. It is the capital of the Valencian Community and an important harbour on the Meditteranean see with a mild and humid climate. The city is also known as the city of flowers, with ninety percent of the streets posessing green areas and trees, being conceived for the Romans as a holiday resort.
The Cabecera park has on its ground the Valencia zoo build with a striking vanguard appearance.
Valencia is famous for the Las Fallas festival in March, for paella valenciana and the new City of Arts and Sciences build by Santiago Calatrava with many sport and games areas like the Gulliver park (el parque Gulliver). The Late Gothic silk exchange(La Lonja de la Seda)is recognised by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Other sights worth seeing are the modernist Mercado Central (Central Market) is one of the largest in Europe and the main railway station Estación Del Norte built in art deco style.
The most international dish is the paella valenciana, that gets it's name from the ingredient, mainly rice with various products of the region, these are normally meat mixed with fresh vegetables.
Public transport is provided by the Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat Valenciana (FGV) which operates the Valencia Metro and other rail and bus services.
Valencia is famous for its vibrant nightlife, the bars and nightclubs are concentrated in the Carmen area, but no longer around the university, due to measures taken in 2007 to prevent noise in populated areas. As is normal for Spain, nightlife does not take off until well after midnight.
